Dental bridges are one of the most popular ways to restore a smile, and can be used to replace missing teeth or teeth that are in need of extraction. Usually made of porcelain, or porcelain fused to metal, there are several different bridge types available, but all of them require the support of 1-2 healthy neighbouring teeth.
Dental bridges are designed to ‘bridge’ a gap in the mouth. They are usually made up of a new porcelain prosthetic tooth or teeth and a support structure that is then attached to the neighbouring teeth, anchoring the prosthesis in place.
Bridges usually require two appointments to be placed. At the first appointment, your anchor teeth will be prepared for the treatment, and a digital scan or impression will be taken so that your personal bridge can be made for you. Once the bridge is made, you’ll come back into the practice to have it placed.
With proper oral hygiene and good overall care, including frequent dental examinations, your bridge could last up to 15 years.
